Gods and Monsters

Remember, it isnÕt the gods who have created man; it is man who has created the gods, so likewise we have created demons; both in our own image : the sacred and the profane. We locate our self-love and self-loathing in these extreme visions of otherness. We have converted this idolatry, both material and metaphysical, into a religiosity of dialectics, of insides and outsides, and thus our capacity for empathy is diminished. Tolerance is overcome by intolerance. Love is overcome by hatred. On the other hand, we have been educated, conditioned, even brainwashed to tolerate repressive social conditions, state violence, exploitation and incursions upon our rights and freedom; all this by a self-interested system of control to aid and abet a precarious status quo of illusory affluence. Our exclusive and excluding, Òway of life.Ó
